Primary & Secondary Teacher Training AUSTRALIA-WIDE
What Is a Direct Instruction (DI) Program?
DI programs have been widely used by teachers just like you and with students just like yours. They provide scripted lessons that are explicit, intensive and teacher-directed. Skills are taught following a specified sequence so that teachers are both efficient and effective and students learn the highest volume of material in the shortest length of time. Inbuilt tests enable teachers to frequently monitor student performance and respond as required. These carefully engineered and systematic programs enable teachers to accelerate the learning of those who can achieve beyond grade level as well as to expedite the progress of students who are behind. DI programs were first established in 1968 by Siegfried Engelmann and his colleagues from the University of Oregon. Extensively field-tested, evidence-based and research-proven, DI programs have been raising standards for all types of students for over 50 years. No other program can claim the substantial amount of independent research studies that prove its efficacy.
Direct Instruction programs work.
They are the epitome of mastery learning and abundant research demonstrates their effectiveness.
